Cardi B is back like she never left. A lot has happened to the rapper since she dropped her chart-topping debut album, Invasion of Privacy, back in April – she’s had a baby with her husband Offset and an ongoing feud with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj. Nevertheless, Cardi proves she is still working as hard as ever on her new song “Money”.

The rapper celebrates her wealth in the song and on the cover art, as she is wearing nothing but diamond encrusted gold watches that go all the way up her sleeve. She raps about her lavish lifestyle proudly claiming, “I was born to flex / diamonds on my neck / I like boarding jets.” But she’s not just chasing a check for herself, she’s hustling for her baby Kulture too saying, “I got a baby, I need some money, yeah / I need cheese for my egg.”

Cardi also alludes to her beef with Nicki Minaj with the line “Bring brass knuckles to the scuffle / I heard that Cardi went pop / Yeah, I did go pop / That’s me bustin’ they bubble”, proving once again that she is not one to mess with.

The song is produced by J. White, who is also responsible for producing Cardi’s breakout hit “Bodak Yellow”. Although Cardi doesn’t have the same rapid flow on “Money” as “Bodak Yellow”, the song is still enjoyable because of the hard-hitting beat and bold lyrics. In essence, the song is hit because it is about what Cardi does best: just being herself.
