WWE Money In The Bank 2019 was awesome. Both Money In The Bank matches lived up to the hype, especially the women’s match. I predicted that the lovable underdog Bayley would win the match, and she did just that, earning a contract that guaranteed her a title opportunity at anytime.
Bayley stole the show later on in the PPV after the Smackdown Women’s Championship match.
Becky Lynch walked into Hartford Connecticut holding both the RAW and Smackdown Women’s Championships. Lynch had a solid match against RAW’s best new heel Lacey Evans, Lynch winning the physical contest with her Disarmer submission hold. Then, all chaos ensued.
The greatest women’s wrestler of all time in my opinion, Charlotte Flair, strutted down the entrance ramp to challenge a beat-down Becky Lynch for the Smackdown title. The two rivals were on their way to another classic encounter before Evans interfered out of frustration and struck Lynch with her Women’s Right finishing move. Charlotte took advantage to win her 9th Women’s Championship.
After the match, Evans and Flair ambushed Lynch until Bayley’s music hit. The crowd came unglued.
Bayley ran to the ring and took out Evans and Flair shoved Lynch to the outside. After Charlotte had a misfire and fell into one of the turnbuckles, Miss Money In The Bank decided to cash in her briefcase. Bayley landed a flying elbow on Flair to win her first Smackdown title, the crowd going bananas as they had just seen one of the greatest MITB cash-ins in history.
But where does Bayley go from here?
Bayley is one of the best women’s wrestlers on the planet. She has all the tools, but inconsistent booking has hindered all of her previous pushes. Bayley has been a lovable, huggable babyface for a very long time. I believe that most fans are tired of the act and they want to see her have the opportunity to be a heel with the microphone in her hand. WWE has been hesitant. to pull the trigger and make her a heel in the past, but I believe that the time is now.
1. SHE NEEDS NEW OPPONENTS
Bayley was moved to Smackdown in the Superstar Shakeup because she has an athletic in-ring style that will look great when the blue brand moves to Fox. If she goes through a character change and becomes an arrogant champion, many feuds can form, and she can step in the ring with brand new opponents. I would love to see her in feuds with Carmella and Asuka.
It would be great to see Bayley back in the ring with Asuka because they had great matches in NXT. My ideal opponent for Bayley is Ember Moon. The feud would benefit both women, so that they can move to the top of the Smackdown brand.
2. SHE DESERVES A FRESH START
It seems like Bayley has been a victim of poor creative storytelling ever since she has been on the main roster. Many people forget that she retained her Raw Women’s championship at Wrestlemania 33. The past couple years have been filled with struggles.
She fell down the card after an awful ‘This Is Your Life’ segment with Alexa Bliss on RAW. The counseling sessions that she had with Sasha Banks and Dr. Shelby were rough as well. The MITB has given Bayley the opportunity to get prominent television time once again. Bayley has never worked as a heel, so new storylines and promos would truly give her a clean slate.
3. THE SASHA BANKS EFFECT
After Wrestlemania 35 in April, multiple sources claimed that Bayley’s former tag team partner Sasha Banks felt unhappy when she found out that they were losing the Women’s Tag Team Titles at the last minute. Banks has not been seen on WWE television since the loss. These sources also claimed that Banks tried to quit the company.
However, the Daily Express reported that Banks denied the rumors when she replied to a fan on Twitter. As a wrestling fan, I think it would be awesome to see Banks return on Smackdown as a heel to fight her former tag team partner throughout the summer. At the inaugural NXT Takeover Brooklyn in 2015, Banks and Bayley had arguably the greatest one-on-one women’s match of all time.
This feud needs to be revisited on the main roster. I would like to see Bayley have a lengthy title reign and eventually turn heel on Ember Moon at Survivor Series this coming November. The Boss & Hug Connection would reunite, and Bayley would reach new heights as an overconfident, boastful heel.
