A Message From Our DJ’s

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Black Squirrel Radio has suspended its programming for the reminder of the spring 2020 semester. 

However, BSR will never leave the heart of our wonderful DJ’s!

Our DJ’s decided to come together and share a message of unity during this difficult time.

Sean Fine- “The Listening Chamber”

To all of our hardworking DJs, coordinators, directors and listeners, I want to extend my sincere gratitude for helping to keep the dream of college radio alive. We’ve had a lot of fun over the years, and we will be back in the future. It is nothing short of disappointing that our semester of programming has been cut short by the viral pandemic. Thank you everyone!

Sean Fitzgerald- Co-host of “Pass the Mic”

Going into that radio booth every Friday always provided me with an escape from the pressures of the world and outside reality for a few hours of valuable time. It wouldn’t have been possible without those who listened in to our show week in and week out. 

BSR has been my lifeblood outside of being a student and an RA, and I’m proud that I can bring something of value to the table for listeners to come away with. While sports have been a part of the moments that unite us in times like these, unfortunately that won’t be the case for now.

You all make me a better host knowing I can give something of value to you by listening in, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!! I look forward to the fall and getting back behind the microphone for two final semesters with Enzo Orlando. 

Brittany Miller- “The Crunch Factor”

I cannot express to BSR and our loyal listeners enough how much I’ve enjoyed going into that radio booth every Wednesday night after a long day. In that booth, me and Sam Salkin have been able to go about our normal shenanigans, which is fun as it is. The most fun, however, comes from knowing that hopefully our shenanigans and slight roasts make you laugh and brighten your day. 

To BSR, thank you for giving me a space of inclusion and acceptance, where I feel like I could talk to anyone and everyone, and I’d learn something new from every single person in the station. I’m disappointed that our time this semester had to be cut so short, but I’m absolutely sticking around until I have to be dragged out. 

Thank you everyone for listening to our crunchy tunes, some spicy hot takes and way more ASMR jokes than are suitable for human consumption. We’ll be back and better than ever next year, but until then: Stay crunchy!

Molly McKnight and Skyler Laser- “The Tuckahoe Show”  

Thank you so much for tuning in to the Tuckahoe Show! This was our first semester as hosts on BSR, and we are sad it had to come to an end so soon (especially since we JUST learned how to use the soundboard). When our loved ones told us they were tuned in on Thursday mornings, it meant the world to us. We hope that you found some joy in our funny stories, frequent technical difficulties and upbeat jams. Thanks again for listening! Maybe BSR will let us do a show again next year!

Joseph Miglio- “SENSITIVE CONTENT”

Yo, yo, yo! Thank you to everyone who has tuned into Sensitive Content! From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you all so much! I had a lot planned for the coming shows, and I’m extremely sad to say that for the time being these will be put on hold.

It’s been so much fun being able to share some of my favorite artists with you guys, and hopefully I’ll be able to continue this next semester. For the time being, keep it locked to our Instagram for some possible upcoming interviews.

Jeremy Farbman- “Black Squirrel Arcade”

Well, I can’t say I expected this to happen. For my first semester with BSR, I’ve had a blast! I knew I was in good hands when the staff immediately understood my vision for the show, and what it would be about. Their great ideas and creativity are better than I could have hoped for. The opportunity to share and talk about a passion of mine became something I looked forward to every week. My only regret is that I couldn’t get to know the other DJ’s better because of the late hours.

Truth be told, I wasn’t sure if I would continue Black Squirrel Arcade after the semester because I thought I would burn through all the best music. Obviously, things changed, and I’m hungry to bring back an improved version next semester that will blow your socks off! Hopefully, this time will fly by. Until then, wash your hands and keep the dream alive! 

Kelsey Paulus- “Expanded Taste”

Black Squirrel Radio is the college experience that I have been looking forward to for years. To be given a platform to talk about what I love most brings me an immense amount of gratitude. Although this semester was short-lived, I loved every single second of it. I looked forward to coming into the studio every Saturday no matter what, and I look forward to hopefully many more days to come.

Thank you to the BSR staff for giving me a chance to express myself through radio. Thank you to my listeners for the support you have given me every week; it means more than anyone will ever know!

Grace Kolich and Amy Dudek- “Anything But Politics”

Thank you all so much for our first semester of BSR. Over the course of the five weeks, we were in the Top 5 most listened to shows each week (placing first once, second three times and fifth once!). We just want to say thank you so much for listening every week. Having a platform to openly discuss mental health is so important, and you all have enabled us to talk about it freely — the good and the bad. Thank you for putting up with the wide array of music, for allowing us to do our first ticket giveaway and for just being such good friends :’). 

Avery Latta- “The B-Side”

These many late nights at the station have been so much fun, and it’s incredibly sad for them to end so soon. My co-hosts and I have loved pouring our hearts into the music, topics and discussions we’ve shared for the past two semesters. It’s a shame things are ending like this, but we’re looking forward to hitting the ground running next semester! Until then, our podcasts are always there for listening!

Benjamin Lambert- “The B-Side”

I got really close with my two best friends this semester making this show, and it’s a real bummer that I’m going to not only be missing them, but missing putting out content for an amazing audience. Over the last few days, I’ve been pouring effort into setting up our social media, YouTube and a Twitch channel so we can keep putting content out. In times like these, it’s important to keep laughing. We’re still here to help with that!

Gabe Bergman- “After the Party”

Well friends… that’s a wrap. The world has fallen into a state of crisis and unprecedented fear and uncertainty. Life as we know it seemingly changes for the worse hour by hour as we retreat to the safety of our homes, and the embrace of loved ones. It’s important to make sure we continue to strive everyday to be the best person, neighbor and citizen we can be. Put the other fellow first and do right by the people around you.

To everyone who took the time to listen to “After the Party” this semester, I thank you. This has been a way to sublimate my emotions and distill my feelings and random stream of consciousness thoughts into a creative project. 

To borrow a phrase from Rock N Roll Song about a great calamity; “Stay calm, keep the radio loud.”

Be safe, be loving, be the best you can be!

Brandon Lewis- “Brandon’s World”

When I exited the studio on March 4, if you would have told me that would be my last time in the studio until August, I would have said you were crazy. Over the last few days, I’ve taken some time to reflect, and I am still in disbelief. This semester was by far my favorite during my time at BSR, and it sucks having it stripped away so suddenly.

I want to thank the listener’s of Brandon’s World. Because of you, the show reached record viewership multiple times this semester. I say it all the time: There is no BSR without our fans. 

To the fans: You and I have been on a wild roller coaster the last four semesters, but from the beginning until now, you have always shown your support for me, the structure of the show and everything I do when it comes to the show. Thank you!

I also want to take some time and thank the wonderful people that I work with day in and day out. Thank you to everybody on the BSR Staff. You make coming to meetings fun. You make coming to work feel like it’s not work. Thank you for accepting me for who I am, and for working with me when problems arise that I cannot control. You all have a special place in my heart!

Lastly, I want to say thank you to my BSR Web Staff! This semester was my second semester as Web Director, and I couldn’t enjoy the time I had any better! Me and my staff made some changes this semester that I think really set the tone for Web Staff in the future, and it created a great culture. My writers came into every meeting excited for what was on the horizon. We may have struggled with coming up with pitch ideas from time to time, but we all survived together, and we got through it together. 

I want to give a huge shoutout to my two coordinators Jenn Noga and Rory Larrison. In times when I was struggling, they picked me up. They told me if my idea was the best idea ever, or if it should never be mentioned again. When I needed backup, they were always right by my side. They went above and beyond to make sure that not only our writers, but that I was held accountable as well. I couldn’t ask for two better coordinators.

Rory and Jenn: Thank you! Without you, I don’t know if I would have been able to make it through this semester. You both have Director-like quality and instincts, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us in the fall.

Davey Squires- “The Squires Show” 

To all the bands, artists and listeners (whether you listened through BSR or watched on the streams), I wanna say thank you! I got to interview and learn about some amazing local talent when I had the chance this semester. I guess what has to be done has to be done. To all the bands and artists I did not get the chance to interview this time around, I’ll give it another go around in the fall. Until then, stay safe and peace be the journey. Love ya guys! 

Julia Kelch- “Dumb Bitch Hours”

I cannot thank BSR enough for everything it has given me. Thank you to all the listeners without whom we would just be screaming into the void, and who tune in even though that’s all we’re doing anyway. Thank you to all my fellow staff members and DJs, especially the ones that will be graduating at the end of the semester.

There was so much more I wanted to do with you all, so many projects I wanted to begin, so much fun I wanted to have in our little corner of Franklin Hall. Even though I’ll be returning for one more semester, this is still the end of my time with this BSR crew that I know so well and love so much.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed me into this crazy awesome world of radio a year and a half ago. Thank you guys for being my friends and pushing me to become the best version of myself and to make even better stuff for our station. I will owe this station and these people a debt that can never be repaid for as long as I’m around, and for that I could not be more grateful.

David Profusek and Jordan Shifflet- “Into the Soundscape”

BSR has given us the opportunity to talk about the music we love and be able to share that love with our wonderful listeners. For us, it has been one of the best parts of our sophomore year of college, and it stinks it had to end like it did. But nonetheless, we plan to return in the fall and continue the program.

Thank you to all listeners for indulging in our commentary, and hopefully our show acted as a fun escape from reality. Thank you to all the DJ’s who helped us along the way and guided us through our BSR journey. Stay safe out there and we’ll pick up where we left off.
