After four years, John Mayer is back and revived with the release of his album, The Search For Everything.
Whether an avid fan or just that person who cries to “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” every so often, this album is sure to please.
After spending much of his time working with the Grateful Dead, it’s refreshing to see and hear Mayer back in his element. The Search For Everything brings back a side of him that seems to have gotten lost some time ago.
Hit single, “Love on the Weekend”, released months ago and continues to swoon the masses with its catchy, whimsical aura. It’s hard not to love it, especially on the weekend.
Mayer brings a bold and upbeat vibe to light in “Still Feel Like Your Man”, “Helpless” and “Moving On and Getting Over”. It’s nice to dance around to his voice rather than spiraling into a sadness or love coma for once.
There are a few surprising guests you wouldn’t expect to be backing up vocals. Al Jardine of the Beach Boys and his son, Matt, are added in on “Emoji of a Wave”. This song exudes beachy lullaby tones and it is nothing but lovely.
Sheryl Crow makes an appearance with Mayer on In the Blood. Although this song lacks musically, the message and lyrics are profound and compelling.
I can feel love the I want, I can feel the love I need
But it’s never gonna calm the way I am
Could I change it if I wanted, can I rise above the flood?
Will it wash out in the water, or is it always in the blood?
Now, if you’re longing for that classic heart-filled, hopelessness Mayer provides – have no fear. Songs like “Changing”, “Never On the Day You Leave” and “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me” will get the job done.
