June is right around the corner and it’s safe to say that pop music has been struggling this year. Katy has yet to release another song that is as good as Chained To Rhythm, and it seems everything else that has been released recently sounds like a “Cheap Thrills” knock off. Yes, we’re looking at you Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran. This year we even got a “Needed Me” knock off from Ashle- oops I mean Halsey. While none of these songs are bad, it seems like none of them really stood out until Madison Beer decided to release a single.
Beer rose to fame by covering popular songs on youtube, Justin Bieber later tweeted a link to one and the rest is history. After countless singles it seems like Madison has finally found her lane.
Released last week, “Dead,” is the most relatable song out right now. In the song, Beer sings about a lover who is not doing right and keeps effing up but is always telling her how he can’t live without her.
On the chorus, Beer asks her lover a question that plenty of us have wondered before ‘You said you can’t live without me, then why aren’t you dead yet? Why are you still breathing?’
The production of the song itself is excellent, and is a new sound for Beer whose older sound was more bubblegum pop. This sound is a lot more, almost as if she had picked up some notes from Ariana Grande or Jojo. The danceable yet moody beat helps make it radio friendly and club ready.
While it’s definitely one of the best releases this year, it’ll be nice to see what else Madison Beer has up her sleeve. Take a listen to her latest offering below.
