This week’s show is Last, First
Last, First airs every Wednesday from 8pm to 10pm. Hosts Layne and Gracen Gerbig are sisters and their sibling show is in its first semester at BSR. Layne is is the General Manager at Black Squirrel Radio and has been with the station for four years! Gracen is a Biology major who is in her first semester at BSR! Since this is Gracen’s first and Layne’s last semester the pair came together for the Last, First a sibling show!
Describe your show:
Layne: Gracen and I play our favorite songs while chattin’ and crackin’ jokes. We provide great study tunes and witty, sibling commentary.
How did you come up with your show concept:
Gracen: Our dad wanted us to do a show together. Hi Dad!
What do you do in your free time:
Gracen: I like to rock climb, organize my planner, and catch up on the podcasts that Layne recommends.
Layne: I listen to podcasts, chill with my cat, and worry about my future.
Who are some of your favorite bands/artists:
Gracen: The Avett Brothers, Susto, Andrew Bird, Fruit Bats, The Black Keys
Layne: Born Ruffians, Tennis, Pinegrove, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Head and the Heart, Punch Brothers
What is your favorite BSR memory:
Gracen: Interviewing Susto in the studio!
Layne: Same – I loved chilling with Susto on-air!
What is your favorite show moment of the semester:
Gracen: Complaining during our weekly “Gerbig Gripes” segment.
Layne: Gracen and I talked politics last week, where we suggested some alternative candidates for Donald Trump’s Presidential cabinet (hint: Tom Hanks is our number one choice.)
What do you hope your BSR legacy is:
Gracen: I hope that I can encourage other students not affiliated with the journalism program to explore college radio.
Layne: I’m going to miss BSR so much – I just hope that college radio continues to be weird and wild after I graduate.
If you could see any band/artist in concert who would it be and why:
Gracen: I would want to see Vampire Weekend in concert. I’ve been listening to them for forever!
Layne: I’d really like to see Warpaint soon – so much girl power in one band.
If you could be any tv show character who would you be and why:
Gracen: I would be Christina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy because she is a strong and empowered woman in medicine.
Layne: I’m Liz Lemon from 30 Rock all the way – I eat cheese at night and I’m very stressed most of the time.
