In case you missed it: In honor of the annual treasure that is International Clash Day (Feb. 7, 2020) Black Squirrel Radio hosted a live performance event at Grafton Correctional Institute. The event featured five different groups and allowed the musicians to broadcast their self-expression not only to those around them, but to viewers across the globe as well.
Clash Day is an annual celebration of punk band The Clash that was initially created by radio personality John Richards of KEXP in Seattle, Washington in 2013. Since then, Clash Day has grown into an international celebration that highlights the band’s individuality and sense of social consciousness– a majority of the band’s songs covered topics such as protest, racism and social activism. Although Kent has been celebrating Clash Day for several years, this is the first year BSR has put on a special event from any correctional institute.
