Wednesday night welcomed a full audience to the Kent State Ballroom for the Annual Sex Week Drag Show. Although the show started at 7:00, by 6:00 there was already a line beginning to wrap around the second floor of the Student Center. Clearly, this has already become a much loved tradition by Kent State students
The show kicked off with MC Ashley Adams Andrews, whose dry, raunchy humor immediately got the crowd comfortable and pumped up. She also performed two numbers later in the show. The show featured multiple queens who regular perform at Interbelt Nite Club in Akron including Kaleigha Diamond, Alejandra Love, and Kardi Redd Diamond. These queens, with their elaborate costumes and acrobatic routines, showed their experience in drag and their impressive ability to entertain a crowd. Although the setup of the ballroom made it difficult to see the queens when they were walking through the aisles on the floor, they did their best to come around so that everyone could get a glimpse of their dances.

The audience was also treated two performances by some of our very own Kent State Students. Mistress Sable and Brandy Michelle each performed a song in the middle of the show. Brandy Michelle’s performance of “God is a Woman” by Ariana Grande, which featured several backup dancers, was definitely a crowd favorite.
One of the biggest draws of the night was the featured performer Kennedy Davenport who appeared on season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Though there was a bit of stalling as Kennedy Davenport’s flight was delayed, her performances did not disappoint. At the end of the show, Davenport addressed the crowd and pointed out the way that Drag Race was bringing in all types of audiences in support of drag and drag queen performers. It was a very meaningful end to such an entertaining night.
For the third year in a row, drag queens from both near and far have rocked the ballroom, drawing larger crowds each time. If you get a chance in the future, take advantage of this awesome (and free) event that Kent Interhall Council has made possible.
