Every week of programming we will be highlighting the Black Squirrel Radio Show of the Week
This week’s show is The Listening Chamber
The Listening Chamber is hosted by Sean Fine. Fine is new to the station and this is the first semester of his rock-based program, The Listening Chamber. In addition to his show Fine also works on BSR Sessions and is the new station tech director.
Describe your show:
I try to curate a selection of darker guitar driven music and also anything that fits my current musical tastes. The Cure, Queens of The Stone Age, Nirvana, and Led Zeppelin are a couple of favorites of mine. I also try to play local acts whenever possible, such as Ghost Slime, Coop, and Iron Bison.
How did you come up with your show concept:
Like many, I grew up surrounded by music, and I’m lucky that the music I grew up surrounded by was actually good, thanks to my mom. a pretty free format and I just try to pick any music I feel like listening to that fits my current feelings or mood.
What do you do in your free time:
I build guitars, I play guitar for The Head Trips and we’re working on recording some new music and hopefully playing a few shows over winter break.
Who are some of your favorite bands/artists:
My favorite bands and artists of all time are Led Zeppelin, The Black Keys, The Cure, David Bowie, Fidlar, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and Nirvana.
What is your favorite show moment of the semester:
I’m just happy to be here at Kent. Last year I was stuck at engineering school in the middle of nowhere in Florida and I’m so much happier at Kent State studying something I’m actually interested in rather than studying engineering because I thought I would make a ton of money.
What is your favorite thing about BSR:
My favorite thing about BSR is all the opportunities it offers for musicians and fans of music alike. From guest interviews to BSR sessions and BSR concerts there’s always a way to get involved at BSR.
If you could see any band/artist in concert who would it be and why:
I would love to see Neil Young or Queens of the Stone Age. I would’ve picked The Cure but I saw them this past summer in London, and I also would’ve picked Tom Petty or David Bowie but they’ve unfortunately passed away.
If you could have any guest on your show who would you have and why:
If I could have any guest on my show I’d choose Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin because he’s my favorite living guitarist.
Tune into The Listening Chamber only on Black Squirrel Radio!
