I consider myself a lover of many bands. Typically, these bands have real members with real albums in the real world. Don’t get me wrong; these qualities are incredibly important when it comes to silly things like listening to songs or going to concerts. Sometimes I’ll catch myself watching something — be it a TV show, movie, etc. — and find a band I only wish shared those tangible luxuries! Because of this, I’ve created a list of the top 9 fictional bands I would probably (totally) be a slight (huge) fan of.
1. Weird Sisters (Harry Potter universe)

Although the Weird Sisters pop up a few times in the Harry Potter universe, I was specifically imaging the scene in the Goblet of Fire film where Harry and company are at the Yule Ball. The Weird Sisters are doing their thing, and everyone is moshing and dancing. As a kid, I always wanted to just jump through my screen and join.
2. Dingoes Ate My Baby (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

I honestly love most things from Buffy, and this band is no exception. The name Dingoes Ate My Baby is something I would totally wear on a ratty band t-shirt. With Oz on guitar and Devon on vocals, I would definitely wear said ratty t-shirt to a Dingoes gig.
3. Josie and the Pussycats

Josie and the Pussycats have seen the comic book universe, an animated series, a film, and most recently, a live action reboot in the CW series Riverdale. Despite always being in the middle of some sort of adventure, the gang always managed to make it to their show. Josie and the Pussycats solved mysteries and never missed a gig; truly inspirational.
4. Jesse and the Rippers (Full House)

The reason for this one starts and ends with Uncle Jesse. When I was growing up, Full House was in what felt like a constant state of re-run. I remember thinking it was so cool that they had a recording studio in the Tanner’s basement. Uncle Jesse could shred, and give killer life advice. I respect that.
5. Sex Bob-omb (Scott Pilgrim universe)

Their name alone is a reason enough to make my list. Canonically, most characters (including Ramona Flowers) think Sex Bob-omb kind of suck. There’s a line yelled by Scott in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World where he says “We’re here to make you think about death and get sad and stuff!” before a show. I think that eloquently captures the essence of Sex Bob-omb. I also just appreciate bands with girl drummers.
6. Hep Alien (Gilmore Girls)

This band in Gilmore Girls is something I always rooted for. How could I not? Lane, the band’s founder, was destined to go to a conservative Christian college at the persistent request of her mother. Instead, she drops out to pursue her music career with Hep Alien. This gritty move by Lane totally left room for the band on my list.
7. Pink Slip (Freaky Friday)

The main members of this band are Anna and her friends, and I can always appreciate a dash of girl-band with my indie rock. When I first saw Freaky Friday, I was probably only, like, 10. Still though, Pink Slip was the rebellious teen band I wished my little 10 year old self could run off and join.
8. Mouse Rat (Parks and Recreation)

Andy is always trying to sell Mouse Rat CD’s in the show Parks and Recreation, and I’d probably own, like, 12. With such beloved hits as “5000 Candles in the Wind” (a tribute to local mini-horse Lil’ Sebastian), “Sex in Space”, and “Drunk Off Our Asses”, Mouse Rat is clearly a band whose lyrics would speak to many.
9. Mystik Spiral (Daria)

Fronted by Trent and often considering a name change, Mystik Spiral is just the type of grungy, animated rock band to make my list. There isn’t actually a lot of evidence in the show Daria that suggests Mystik Spiral would be any good. Nevertheless, as the product of my favorite sardonic 90s series, Mystik Spiral takes my #1 spot.
From a wizard rock band, to a group of 1960’s mystery-solving comic book characters, the bands on this list would definitely catch my attention. If I ever got the chance, you would totally catch me at at Sex Bob-omb gig, or in some garage listening to Mystik Spiral. At the end of the day, though, as entertaining as it may be to imagine Mouse Rat playing Coachella, the beauty of these bands starts and ends on screen.
