I can guarantee that this song will be the new hit song of the last days of summer.
Justin Bieber is back and this time, he’s not alone.
The “Sorry” pop singer, along with electronic pop group Major Lazer and Danish singer MØ. released a new single on July 22, titled “Cold Water.”
Bieber teased on his Twitter account the day before the single was released. He would count down at every hour, posting various gifs and pictures to highlight the dropping of the lyric video.
In all honesty, this is probably one of the best songs that Bieber has ever performed in his music career so far.
The song contains major musical elements that makes it a great listen. Though the pop song is lively and makes it fun to dance to, it somehow also mixes in a chill and mellow feel to it.
I do believe the reason for that is due to Bieber’s maturity. Back in the his “Baby” days, the pop singer catered to a specific audience (fangirls and beliebers) and hasn’t really explored other sounds.
As he continued to grow up, he became cocky and immature and started to act out to attract publicity.
Then, one day, it finally hit him. He realized that there comes a time in every man’s life where he must own up to his mistakes and do better by it.
In order to truly realize his mistakes, Comedy Central decided to host a roast for the pop artist in 2015. After raunchy jokes and endless laughter from the audience, Bieber did make a pledge at the end of the special to become a better person and he wanted to show the world how much he matured through his music.
I will admit; he did prove it. When he released Purpose toward the end of the year, it took the world by storm. Though it was filled with sad love songs, each of them provided a different side of Bieber we’ve never seen before. He matured and it truly reflected in the style of his music.
It still does to this day. “Cold Water” is, no doubt, Bieber’s best song to date. It reminds me of Drake’s “One Dance” to where it is melodious but still remains to have a dance mixing sense to it.
The only problem I had with the song was that it was way too short. It was nice to hear a song that wasn’t constantly being repeated on the radio. Bieber brought something new and fresh to the table and I can only hope that it means he will come out with more music in the near future.
