Show of the Week: The Zach and Beau Show
Written by BSR Web Staff on December 5, 2016
Every week of programing we will be highlighting the Black Squirrel Radio Show of the Week!
This week’s show is The Zach and Beau Show
The Zach and Beau Show airs every Tuesday from 10pm to Midnight. Hosts Zach Eckert and Beau Kuhn have been with BSR for seven semesters bringing what they describe as an in-depth analysis of music and entertainment from the past, present and future with a focus on promoting local artists, venues, events and shows. Over their time at BSR they have been one of the top listened to shows bringing various ZB Show events and promotions like the VS Pink Scavenger Hunt, ticket giveways and free ZB pizzas. This week will be the final Zach and Beau show ever after their four year long run!
How did you come up with your show concept:
Zach: From our love of music and involvement on campus… and trial & error
Beau: I started sophomore year with a radio show all on my own called “The Stratocaster,” which lasted a total of one week. After that disaster, I told Zach he had to be in the studio with me. He agreed, but only if we changed the name. The rest is history.
Who are some of your favorite bands/artists:
Zach: Dave Matthews Band, Jack White, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Portugal. The Man
Beau: Led Zeppelin, M83, Dawes, Alt-J, Big Gigantic, White Denim, Jack White, Jamestown Revival
What do you do in your free time:
Zach: Golf, Hike, Jam w/ Beau and Hang with my dogs
Beau: Watch movies, learn random stuff on YouTube, shoot random videos with my friends and pretty much anything else to distract me from the responsibilities of the real world.
What is your favorite BSR memory:
Zach: Meeting John Gourley
Beau: I expect it will happen this coming Tuesday, 12/6 at 10pm during our last show ever. But meeting famous people and going to Bonnaroo for free has been pretty dope, too.
Describe each other:
Zach: Beau is the most creative person I know. He is a very caring dude with a huge passion for music and film. I am proud and honored to call him one of my best friends.
Beau: Zach is the brains of the operation. He’s extremely organized and responsible, something I’m extremely envious of. And he’s a go-getter. The show wouldn’t be where it is today without his constant strive to do bigger and better. We were best friends before the show, we’ll remain best friends after. But it certainly brought us closer.
What do you hope the legacy of Zach and Beau is:
Zach: I hope the legacy of The ZB Show is one of innovation. We were able to do things differently and we saw great success from this… Never be afraid to take yourself seriously… even if you’re a crazy weirdo.
Beau: At first, all I wanted was recognition. That’s why we plastered our names and faces everywhere. But now I just hope the younger people see what an amazing opportunity BSR offers them, and how much they can gain from it. I met a bunch of famous people and watched people become famous, went to music festivals for free, and got to hang out with my best friend and escape the stress of life for two hours every week. If I could go back and change one thing, I’d have joined first semester of freshman year.
