Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei proves she has what it takes to shine on her own

With two successful albums behind them and numerous awards, the ladies of Fifth Harmony are living it up and even starting to dive into solo projects. Unlike her bandmates, Normani Kordei is taking a different route. Instead of releasing original music like Camila Cabello and Lauren Jauregui, she’s been releasing covers as a teaser of her sound to her fans.
Following up the release of her cover of “Say It” earlier this year, she’s back with a mashup of Drake’s latest releases, “Fake Love” and “Sneakin’” and it is amazing. “I got fake people showing fake love to me” The minimum production on the track puts Ms. Kordei’s vocals on full display, which is something new considering she’s in a group with four other girls. The song is a bit of a sharp contrast from her bandmates, most are doing pop music but it seems she wants to take the R&B route.

“Was playing mall shows, but main stagin’ now” she sings, putting her own twist on 21 Savage’s verse. The track oozes with with sultry vocals, strong harmonies and a mature vibe that puts her in a different league than her current bandmates.

As much as the world loves Fifth Harmony, one has to wonder what does this mean? Multiple members have been releasing solo music and just yesterday it was announced that Camila Cabello was leaving the group. I guess that’s what happens when you get two moderate hits. You start thinking you’re the Beyoncé of the group but she’d be lucky if she could be the Latavia of the group, no tea, no shade.
One thing is sure though, if I had to put my money on any of the members being a successful solo artist, I’d put my money on Normani Kordei. Take a listen to the track below.
