Despite some of the top teams having off this week, College Football’s Week 10 of the 2019 season didn’t disappoint, with a couple undefeated teams suffering their first loss and other squads seeing their playoff dreams derailed.

Games of the Week

(8)Georgia 24, (6)Florida 17

The Bulldogs basically punched their ticket to the SEC championship game with a critical victory over the Gators. In a tightly-contested game between old rivals, it was Georgia’s passing attack that was the difference with Jake Fromm taking over in the fourth quarter.

(24)Memphis 54, (15)SMU 48

In the only other ranked game of Week 10, Memphis put an end to SMU’s Cotton Bowl hopes and added a statement win to its impressive season. Both quarterbacks threw for at least 350 yards, but Memphis Brady White got the last laugh.

Best of the Rest

Oregon and Utah overcame slow starts to beat USC and Washington respectively. Clemson beat up on another cupcake. Baylor remained undefeated with a close win over West Virginia.

Wake Forest is quietly 7-1 and three weeks away from a date with Clemson. The ACC Coastal Division continues to be a mess, and it doesn’t seem like any team is eager to get smacked by Clemson in the ACC Championship.

Storyline of the Week

Battle between two undefeated teams.

“The Game of the Century” was how some sportswriters referred to the 2011 showdown between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama. LSU won a defensive battle 9-6, but the Crimson Tide got their revenge in the National Championship game with a 21-0 beat down.

In Week 11, the teams will meet again in the same situation with SEC and playoff implications. This time though, it’s the offenses that will have the spotlight with both teams in the Top 10 nationally in yards per game.

Player of the Week

Mason Fine, North Texas quarterback

The best honor any college football player can ask for is only bestowed upon one player this week. When you throw for seven touchdowns and wear a dinosaur costume to the post game press conference, you deserve to have this award all to yourself! That’s exactly what Fine did, lifting the Mean Green to a 56-24 win over UTEP, reaching 12,000 passing yards for his career and showing up after the game in a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex costume.
