Opinion: Vince McMahon Needs To Step Down As WWE Chairman

Vincent Kennedy McMahon has been the Chairman of WWE since the 1980’s. He created Wrestlemania, arguably the biggest success in the history of professional wrestling. He created a boatload of larger than life characters, including Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena and many others that have carried WWE for decades.

But, in life there’s always comes a time in a person’s career where they just cannot do their job to the best of their ability anymore. It happens all the time. Some people like Vince Scully and Betty White can do their job longer than the average human while people like Greg Oden and Brandon Roy retire a lot earlier than expected due to injuries or other unfortunate situations.

I believe McMahon’s time to retire is now.

Wednesday, WrestlingInc dropped a bombshell report that detailed frustrations backstage from not only WWE writers, but from Triple H himself on how WWE’s programming has been as of late. The report deemed that “The Game” is “the most frustrated person backstage every night.”

Thursday, the same website released another report stating that Vince is too open to ideas from writers, and then they all get shut down.

Often, reports come out, and they are not true, but I believe every square inch of these reports, considering WrestlingInc was one of the first websites to report back in December that McMahon rewrote an entire episode of RAW the day of the show, and that the script was not finished until after the show started.

As a friend texted me earlier this week, doing business like the way WWE has done business lately means there’s instability in the company. When your own family is trying to tell you you’ve lost your touch, you should listen.

I love Mr. McMahon the character. WWE would not be as successful as it is today without Mr. McMahon the character. Mr. McMahon the character is still funny to this day. Every time Mr, McMahon the character makes an appearance on WWE TV it feels special, but I have fallen out of love with Mr. McMahon, the owner of WWE.

Triple H has been under McMahon’s wing now as an executive for almost eight years. Triple H rebuild NXT from the ground up into the global phenomenal it is today. Vince McMahon Sr. knew when it was time to give his business to his son.  I think Triple H is ready to take the reigns from his father-in-law.

WWE has planted the perfect seeds for a Triple H vs Vince McMahon match at Wrestlemania 36 for control of the company. I hope it happens. I’m not saying McMahon is no longer a good businessman. I believe the XFL is going to work, but I think he needs to spend the remaining years of his life focused on running a football company rather than a wrestling company.
