Black Squirrel Radio is Kent State University's student radio station, located on the 2nd floor of Franklin Hall.
Black Squirrel Radio is completely run by Kent State students and has nearly 150 students on its staff. The management of the station is handled by the General Manager and the 12 members on the Board of Directors.
Over the years, Black Squirrel Radio has evolved into mainly an internet radio station. The station's website draws visitors from nearly 100 different countries. You can listen to Black Squirrel Radio streaming on our Web site or you can hear us in the dorms on channel 4 or on Time Warner Cable Channel 16 in Portage County, Ohio.
We offer a wide variety of content in our programming. Our main formats of music are Urban, Rock and Local Music. We also have Specialty Shows which range from Country to Drum & Bass to Heavy Metal. We also broadcast many KSU football and basketball games live, and report the news twice an hour.
All of our DJs, News Team, and Promotions Team members are unpaid volunteers. These students use Black Squirrel Radio as a hands-on experience to enhance their education at Kent State. Auditions for all volunteer positions are held at the beginning of each semester in the second week of classes. Positions are open to all Kent State students.
I would like to thank you for listening to Black Squirrel Radio and enjoy!
