Album Review: Citizen Cope "The Rainwater"
Album Reviews

Despite its not-so-publicized announcement as the first record released by front man Clarence Greenwood’s newly created label, RainWater Recordings, Citizen Cope’s fourth album, The Rainwater LP, is nothing less than well produced. The record made for a continuation of talented tracks released from the Washington, D.C native.

Since his debut in 2002 with self-titled record, Citizen Cope, Greenwood’s album-to-album style has remained a distinctive mix of R&B, rock, and funk that reaches the heart and soul. His third album, Every Waking Moment, released on previous label RCA Records, peaked at #69 on the Billboard 200 Chart in 2006. After touring North America in 2008, selling over 100,000 concert tickets, Greenwood began work on The Rainwater LP, full of soulfully rich tunes, released in early February.

MAC Tournament Quarterfinals
General

Andrew Jardy | BSR Sports

Last Sunday, Ohio, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Buffalo all advanced to the quarterfinal matchups. With the opening round games taking place at campus sites, the MAC tournament will shift to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.  The action will resume Thursday at noon and continue through the weekend, concluding on Saturday. As far as predictions go, I wound up with a 3-1 record in the opening round, with the only loss being Ohio winning at Ball State. Here are the quarterfinal matchups.

#7 Western Michigan (8-8, 17-14) v. #2 Central Michigan (9-7, 15-14)

Tip-off: Noon

TV: Fox Sports Net

The first game of quarterfinals action will feature two MAC West rivals. Western Michigan beat Bowling Green at home on Sunday and will now play MAC West Champion, Central Michigan. The Chippewas won the MAC West and received the #2 seed and a first round bye. MAC Player of the Year, David Kool leads the Broncos with 20.9 points per game, best in the Mid-American Conference. These two rivals clashed twice this year and the team’s split the matchups. The home teams won both games and each was by nine points. Central Michigan has two talented guards in Jordan Bitzer and Robbie Harman. Between the two, they average 29.7 points per game while the rest of the Chippewa team averages a combined 35 points. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Eastern Michigan v. Akron game.

Prediction: David Kool can carry his team to a victory but it will be difficult. This should be an entertaining game and competitive throughout. I think the balance of the Chippewas will be the difference in this one. Look for Central to advance to the semifinals.

Overall Crime Rates Drop in Kent
Local News

Denver Collins | Correspondent

(Bruce Chambers/Orange County Register/MCT)(Bruce Chambers/Orange County Register/MCT)

Overall crime rates in Kent declined 6.56%, according to the Kent Police Department's annual report released March 1, following a similar trend over the past 10 years.

Fewer instances of robbery, burglary, assault, larceny, auto-theft and arson were reported in 2009 than in 2008. Despite increased media attention on incidents in recent months, assaults dropped slightly from 270 to 263. However, instances of rape shot up 71.43%, from seven in 2008 to 12 in 2009 and there was also one homicide.

Kent Public Safety Director Bill Lillich said the numbers are hard to predict.
"We've had some streaky kinds of activities that have us concerned," he said. "That's why we're working hard on neighborhood policing efforts."

Lillich said the increased media attention may contribute to lowering crime rates, as citizens become more cautious about their surroundings and aware of how to look out for their own safety.

From the Franklin Hall Newsroom for Saturday, March 6, I’m Casey Braun and here’s what’s happening.

Streetsboro City Schools Superintendant Linda T. Keller issued a warning to families in the district Wednesday after a gloved hand beckoned to a 10-year-old student of Henry Defer Intermediate School. The incident occurred on Delores Ave. Wednesday morning and Keller sent out the warning that evening. Streetsboro Police Sergeant Darin Powers said no words were exchanged and the person’s intent was unclear.

The Arizona bus that crashed killing six and sending 16 others to the hospital was operating illegally.

Next time you’re on Main Street and you happen to stop into Starbucks, take a look next door and check out The Exchange. A small establishment with a lot to offer, The Exchange caters to all your music, movie and video gaming needs.

Located at 104 South Lincoln Street, The Exchange is an easy walk from almost anywhere on campus. Kent Students can find cds, dvds, games for nearly any system, even vinyl records, among The Exchange’s collection.

Starting out as a mom-and-pop bookstore over ten years ago, The Exchange has become the premier spot for entertainment shopping in Kent for both students and townies alike. An extensive collection with very reasonable pricing has created a solid clientele. That’s not to mention The Exchange’s way of somehow having that one game or movie you really want in stock before any other retail store has it.
