BSR Sports Department Florida Trip GoFundMe
BSR Sports Department Starts GoFundMe For Florida International Trip
By: Ryan Landolph
Four members of the Black Squirrel Radio Sports Department were lucky enough receive credentials to live broadcast Kent State baseball’s four-game away series against Florida International University from Feb. 24 – Feb. 26. Unfortunately, due to various specifications in possible funding options, groups on campus that have provided financial assistance to BSR in the past are unable to duplicate that investment again.
We at Black Squirrel Radio feel that this trip is an integral to the development of the Sports Department. Earlier this year, two members were fortunate enough to travel to State College, PA to live broadcast Kent State’s football season opener against Penn State University. Going into an unknown, hostile environment tested the broadcasters, but the experience has helped shape the way the two call games today. They learned valuable skills that will continue to bolster their abilities in a preferred field of work after graduation next year. The sports journalism field is an extremely tough industry to break into, and this experience will be extremely valuable to all four members going forward.
The goal for this trip is to get out of our comfort zones and gain experience calling games in a foreign environment. We also hope to meet Florida International’s student radio sports department and learn about their processes for broadcasting games.
The amount requested for this trip includes airfare, lodging, food and rides via uber to and from our locations. Any amount provided is extremely appreciated by the BSR family. We thank you for your contribution to helping the advancement of this student-run radio station!
